Germany: Nigerian community thrown into mourning as man kills girlfriend

The Nigerian community in Bremen is still in a state of shock many days after a Nigerian killed his 41-year-old girlfriend in the northern German city.

On the day of the tragic incident, which occurred on 7 June, the 42-year-old man called the emergency to report that he had just attacked his girlfriend, also a Nigerian, in their apartment with a knife. When the rescue team arrived at the scene, the 41-year-old woman had succumbed to the serious injuries inflicted on her. An immediately initiated resuscitation attempt by the medics had unfortunately no success. The woman could not be saved due to the brutal stab wounds she suffered. The Bremen police immediately arrested the man.

The police are yet to reveal the identity of the assailant and the reason for carrying out the dastardly act.

The tragic incident has thrown the Nigerian community in the city into mourning with many wondering why the man killed his girlfriend.

In February 2017, a Nigerian asylum-seeker brutally attacked his former girlfriend, a German national of Indian/Sri Lankan origin, by stabbing her 22 times in the throat and upper body. She later died in hospital as a result of her wounds.

The murderer, identified by the court as Anthony I., was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in October 2017.
