Lead Academy: Application closes on 15 November, Apply now!!

An invitation has gone out to young people of African descent in Germany to participate in the Lead Academy 2020 via Zoom on 24-26 November. The event is organised by Lead Africa International e.V., a global non-governmental organization dealing with development issues.

The three-day virtual event precedes the Global Partnership for African Development (G-PAD) 2020 Forum, with the theme Strengthening Ties and Building Bridges for Recovery and Growth.

Lead Academy 2020 seeks to chart a new course of thinking among youths on the maintenance of post-Covid economic relevance and career development as well as provide a counter-narrative to the conventional body of knowledge about Black people in Europe.

The Academy will examine the disruptive impact of the global coronavirus pandemic on the different spheres of life – from economic to the political, from social to the cultural.

Amidst the pandemic, the police murder of George Floyd in May sparked worldwide protests for racial and social justice, creating a new political consciousness which has had ramifications for developments across the world.

Floyd’s death without doubt influenced the outcome of the just concluded US elections and played an important role in the recent #EndSARS protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

The Academy therefore will revisit historical narratives that have framed the foundation of racial imbalance around the world. Moreover, the program will explore new ways to foster partnership and strengthen ties for economic recovery, growth and development in a post-Covid world.

Participants at the Lead Academy 2020, which will hold via Zoom on 24-26 November, will address the following questions:

– In the wake of the ravaging impact of the Coronavirus, negatively affecting traditional economic systems and pattern of close human contact, how can people adjust to this new normal in Germany?
– How has the Euro-propagated body of knowledge on Africa influenced modern racial discourse?
– How can individuals position themselves as a tool for change amid a global crisis?

The Lead Academy is targeted at, but not limited to, Africans and people of African descent. Slots are only available to 15 participants, who would be selected from across categories for equal opportunity and representation. Successful applicants will receive a daily stipend of €40.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be issued certificates of completion and become alumni of Lead Academy.
