THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
A Facebook-based support group for women in Nigeria has been selected to participate in the 2021 Facebook Community Accelerator, a program for people who run groups/communities on Facebook.
Germany-based Osamakue Izevbokun Iroha, who also runs Africans in Deutschland, created the Mothers, Kids and More (MKM) on Facebook in 2017 to provide a non-prejudiced platform for women and mothers to communicate, network, share ideas and provide resources for self-development.
The group meanwhile has over 464,000 members and assists its members in developing business ideas through counselling and financial assistance.
According to Facebook, MKM is one of the “13 Facebook community leaders in Africa who have been helping to resolve social challenges, empowering their audiences with knowledge while connecting with others that share their interests or passion for a cause”. According to Mrs Iroha, MKM also provides health information for women and children while the group is a platform for members to form sustainable friendship and support themselves.
Participants in the 2021 Facebook Community Accelerator, which “helps leaders harness the power of their community to turn impactful ideas into action”, will receive training, mentorship and up to $50,000 in funds to invest in an initiative that extends their community’s positive impact.
“At Facebook, we are committed to helping people realise their full potential through initiatives like this,” the global social media giant said in the press statement.
“I am excited for the opportunity to learn, grow and scale our impact!” Mrs Iroha, who also runs four other Facebook groups, including Africans in Deutschland (AID), said upon learning that MKM was one of the 13 lucky groups chosen in sub-Sahara Africa.
“Thanks to this program, our vision and mission will be more achievable,” she added. “Special thanks to my family and my MKM family for this great achievement.”
According to Facebook, 130 participants across the globe have been selected out of over13,000 applicants to participate in the 2021 Facebook Community Accelerator Program.
