A 28-year-old man has won 221 Kenyan Shillings (US$2 million) after perfectly predicting the scores of 17 matches last weekend in a football betting jackpot. This is one of the biggest wins in Africa and for Kenya’s largest online sports betting service SportPesa.
The jackpot winner, Samuel Abisai, was picked up on Tuesday in a white limousine together with his friends and brother from his home in Roysambu, which is about 12 kilometers from the Nairobi central business district.
He was chauffeur-driven with an escort of commercial motorbike riders (Boda Boda) to a restaurant for a cheque presentation ceremony.
Another winner, 24-year-old Ahmed Ali, who took home 41 million Kenyan Shillings (US$397,865) for predicting 16 out of 17 matches, was also chauffeur-driven in a customized Land Rover Luxury SUV to the cheque presentation ceremony.
The two winners said in Swahili that they would first support their families, friends and community while they decide what to do with the chunk.
Two Kenyans won 62 million Kenyan Shillings (US$600,000) in the same jackpot two months ago.
