African start-ups chosen for €100,000 German investment prize

Ten start-ups from across Africa have been chosen for the Afro German Pitch Night at which the winner will walk away with €100,000 equity investment.

The nominees were selected from the Deutsch Connect and Idea Seed Africa networks of start-ups.
The final list of start-ups include five from Nigeria – namely, Agriple, Asusu, Chekkit, M.E Solutions and Rural Farmers Hub, and two from Uganda – Bringo Fresh and Famunera.

Also selected are Cote d’Ivoire Drone from Ivory Coast, eMsika from Zambia and Farm Hut from Zimbabwe.

The start-ups will pitch to the investor and an expert pool of judges virtually on the 11 June 2021.

According to the organisers most of the start-ups are in Agritech, showing the importance of agriculture in Africa. They said that they had chosen a strong line-up of start-ups with traction and that are looking to scale up. However, they hope that in the next pitch event more female-led start-ups will apply and also get opportunity to pitch as women empowerment and equality is something key for them.
