AfricanTide Union e.V. opens branch in Hamburg

The Dortmund-based AfricanTide Union e.V. has opened its first branch office.  Since 15 June, there is now the opportunity to exchange and develop joint projects in the Gutruf Haus in the immediate vicinity of the Alster in Hamburg.

“We are happy to be in Hamburg now. Together with local stakeholders, we want to implement our successfully tested programmes for promoting integration and combating the causes of flight here,” said Dr RosaLyn Dressman, chairperson of AfricanTide Union.

Until now, AfricanTide Union has been developing strategies to fight the causes of flight and for a better integration of migrants at the same time from Dortmund. This applies to both classical language courses and individually developed programmes for the promotion of self-employment among people with a migration background (FRIEND). The project FRIEND is now being implemented in Hamburg as well.

“Migrants often work as self-employed, we have the experience that with FRIEND we can give important tips to the entrepreneurs, especially at the beginning of their career,” explains Dr Norbert Tschirpke, Project Coordinator at AfricanTide Union. Numerous aspects of business management such as accounting, taxation, labour law, corporate communication, diversity management and many more are treated in more than 80 lessons within the context of FRIEND.

AfricanTide Union runs the training programme in two languages. The participants can decide for themselves which language they prefer. Using a chat function, experts answer the questions of the participants.

There’s hardly anyone more qualified to help migrants and refugees new to Germany than former newcomers themselves is the conviction of AfricanTide Union.

Based in Dortmund, an industrial city with roughly 600,000 residents in western Germany, the organization not only runs two day care centres, but also a variety of programmes for adult migrants and refugees. These include German classes and computer seminars aimed at qualifying people for the German job market. AfricanTide also runs a shelter for young refugee men aged 18 to 25 who came to Germany without their families as unaccompanied minors.
