THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
The Bayelsa State Government has said that it would partner with the AfricanTide Union, an international social development organisation, to train over 200 Bayelsans in various skills.
The Commissioner for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Hon. Stanley Braboke, stated this on Monday during a meeting with the management of AfricanTide Union in Yenagoa.
He expressed delight that the AfricanTide Technical Training and Education Centre (ATTEC) has reopened for training after a protracted period of lull due to financial challenges on the part of the government.
He thanked Governor Douye Diri for approving the counterpart funds for the running of the institute.
The Commissioner noted that the Prosperity Administration is focused on youth development which is in tandem with the vision of the AfricanTide Union.
He also expressed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring a seamless running of the programme.
Hon. Braboke stated that the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity would set up a committee, which will interface with ATTEC frequently for the purpose of synergy between both parties.
In her presentation, the President, AfricanTide Union, Dr RosaLyn Dressman, thanked Governor Diri for believing in ATTEC to bring the needed transformation to Bayelsa.
She pledged that the organisation would partner with the state government to the best of its ability to bring the governor’s vision of prosperity to reality.
Dr Dressman stated that the technical training institute upholds the philosophy of gender equality and offers a vast array of courses which include smart house construction, solar installation, plumbing and fashion design, among others.
She also revealed a prototype plan for the institution which will have adequate workshops for different training programmes.
The meeting was followed by a visit to the proposed permanent site of the training institute along AIT/ ELEBELE Road, Opolo.
Present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Arc. Ere Efeke, Directors in the Ministry, the Chief Executive Officer, ATTEC, Prof Jason Osai, amongst others.
