Berlin: Kenako kicks off with a children’s African festival

Kenako Afrika-Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. And it’s doing it in a big style!

In addition to its activities on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz, its traditional venue, from 20 to 30 July, there will also be a Kenako Kids Festival, organised in cooperation with FEZ Berlin, the largest non-profit child, youth and family centre in Europe.

Kenako Kids at FEZ-Berlin, holding from 27 June to 2 July, is a festival consisting of a project week for students, concerts, a market of African products and food, and a family event for the weekend.

The events are “specially designed for our youngest festival guests and is aimed specifically at children, young people and school groups,” Afrika Medien Zentrum, festival organisers, said. Kenako Kids at FEZ is expected to attract families and introduce Africa to young visitors through various channels of arts and culture.

Kenako Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and has established a solid reputation on Berlin’s cultural scene, will hosts events, ranging from live concerts, dance workshops, a bazaar and podium discussions, from 20 to 30 July.
