The new magazine targeted at African entrepreneurs in Germany will be launched on Saturday, 3 October in Dortmund and no longer on Thursday, 1 October as earlier announced.
The new magazine, published by RosaLyn Dressman, PhD, President of the social and development organisation AfricanTide Union e.V., focuses on entrepreneurs in the African community in Germany to highlight opportunities in self-employment but also to address the challenges it entails.
Moreover, the magazine seeks to promote the role of diaspora entrepreneurs in the economic development of the African continent.
“During this pandemic we at AfricanTide Union e.V. have continued to strive, knowing that when this is over businesspeople will be eager to reconnect and forge ahead,” Dr Dressman, who is also the President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Germany, said.
“This is why we have come up with The African Merchant (TAM) magazine which we fervently hope will offer support in African entrepreneurs’ efforts to overcome the challenges thrown up by the global health crisis.”
Studies have shown that migrants are much more enthusiastic about being their own bosses than native Germans. One reason is, it is seen as the best way out of unemployment as they are more affected by joblessness.
The publication of TAM is a response to the increasing numbers of Africans entering self-employment as a defensive response to difficulties in accessing jobs commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Many are also establishing businesses to respond to market opportunities.
Issues to be regularly featured in the magazine include what anyone contemplating starting a business in Germany should know and do, access to start-up capital and training, and where to find useful information and marketing support.
The bimonthly magazine will regularly report on laws, regulations and business-related events, such as trade fairs, seminars and conferences.
TAM therefore seeks to empower African businessmen and women in Germany by providing timely information and analyses but also showcasing successful entrepreneurs who will share their experiences thereby highlighting best practices.

TAM hopes to support African entrepreneurs to build resilient businesses that flourish and are less prone to failure.
The emergence of TAM now is very auspicious in view of the coronavirus pandemic, which is changing conventional business practices and posing enormous challenges to entrepreneurs.
The magazine seeks to support African businesses as they deal with these challenges by regularly reporting on the changing situation and reporting global best practices.
TAM will be launched on Saturday, 3 October at an event, expected to be graced by Jörg Stüdemann, Director of the City of Dortmund, Thomas Westphal, the Director of the City of Dortmund Economic Development Agency, Hon. Kenneth Chibuogwu Gbandi, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe, among other dignitaries.
