Hamburg-based actress, author, model and TV presenter Dayan Kodua has issued an alert for her new book My Black Skin: Life Journeys.
The German-Ghanaian beauty, the first woman of African descent to win a state beauty contest in Germany, published the book alert on her Facebook page on Friday, announcing: “The coffee table book comes in two languages: English & German. I would like to thank all my protagonists and the whole team. Without you, this would not be possible.”
The book portrays 22 Germans of African origin whose stories inspire young Black people in the country to greater heights in their endeavours.
“In every human being there is a drive and a desire to achieve something in life. There is a power in all of us that says yes, is forward looking and sees change as an opportunity,” Dayan wrote.
She continued: “In order for us to live a fulfilled and authentic life, it is sometimes necessary to get out of our comfort zone and seize opportunities and possibilities or even create them ourselves.
“My Black Skin: Life Journeys tells the heroic journeys of 22 Black Germans. Their success stories are meant to give other people of all backgrounds and religions the courage and confidence to achieve their professional and personal goals.
“Even though life is often not easy, it always offers us new opportunities. We just have to see them, accept them, work on them and change the narratives of society through our constant action.
“All the protagonists in this book have already made a great contribution to the development of our society.
“My Black Skin: Life Journeys aims to defy racism with positive examples and bring many, very different life journeys into the public spotlight – as proof of what is possible for us humans.”
The new book is Dayan Kodua’s third. Her other books, in German, are Odo, which tells the story of a 6-year-old girl in Ghana, and My Black Skin: Schwarz. Erfolgreich, a pictorial band of 25 personalities from different walks of life who tell their very personal stories of living in Germany.
