It was tough for the panel of judges entrusted with the task of choosing the most beautiful Nigerian woman in German on Saturday (5 September) in Hamburg.
The quality of the candidates who participated at the beauty pageant, part of activities marking Nigerian independence celebrations in the city, made the job of the jury very difficult. For the contestants – Christiana Johnson, Bukola Riedel, Lisa Esosa, Deborah Oyedeji, Confidence Nmonze and Emmanuela Solomon – all bear the qualities the organisers were looking for – a combination of beauty, character, education and style.
The audience that packed the venue of the event did not escape the tension that enveloped the judges. After rounds of catwalk, quiz and interviews, the verdict fell! Deborah Oyedeji, a Berlin-based model, emerged the new Miss Nigeria Germany. It’s a decision that was greeted with a resounding applause and as it marked the end of the long wait and a relief of the tensed atmosphere at the venue.
The 2019 edition of Miss Nigeria Germany is the first to be held since 2015, when Joy Chinyere Ogugua emerged winner. She had been holding the crown for four good years! No wonder the enthusiasm of the contestants to take over the prestigious crown.
Organised by African Heritage Media in collaboration with African-German Information Centre, in addition to the beauty contest, the event also featured live music, a fashion show, comedy sketches, hip-hop fest and traditional dances. And the diaspora-based Nigerian artists who performed on Saturday, including Toni Tuklan, Me-Razor, Okwudili Obi, Carmen Amaka, Cbily and Sofia Robert, did not disappoint. For they thrilled the audience non-stop until the end of the show. It’s a beautiful night full of thrill, music, culture and high fashion.
Team Miss Nigeria Germany 2019, comprising of Tony Air, Prince Ijo and Juliet Ohenhen, and moderator Kenneth Eze surely lived up to their promise as they made the Hamburg Naija Show 2019 a memorable event.
