THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
A memorial church service for Kenneth Chukwudi Alaekwe, who passed away recently, will hold on Saturday 17 March in Berlin Schöneberg.
The president of the German chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) died on17 February at the age of 55 in a Berlin hospital after a brief but serious illness.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Ulla and son Henry.
The church service will hold at the St. Norbert, Dominicustr. 19 in 10823 Berlin. The event will commence promptly at 2 pm and will be followed by a coffee reception.
According to Ulla, the service is meant to give thanks for the life of her late husband and to commend him into God’s eternal care. “We will sing Ken’s favourite church hymns at the service to celebrate his short but successful life,” she added, appealing to guests to arrive promptly for the event.

The memorial service is also an opportunity for friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian community to pay their last respect to the deceased and bid him farewell.
In a press release, the acting president of NIDO, Dr Rosalyn Dressmann, called on Nigerians to turn out en masse to honour their departed compatriot “who dedicated his time, energy, talent and financial resources in the service of his community and nation”.
Kenneth Alaekwe was born on 23 May 1962 in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria.
At the time of his death, Kenneth was Director for Conference Production at Marcus Evans (Germany) Ltd, an international business conferencing group. He was also an Associate Publisher of The African Courier.
Kenneth Alaekwe, who is also survived by his mother and siblings, was buried in closed family circles on 10 March in Heek-Westfalen, the hometown of his widow.
