Festival to celebrate Africa with cultural show in Potsdam

For the 13th year, Afrika Festival Potsdam/Brandenburg will display Africa’s cultural wealth in the eastern German city of Potsdam on 19-20 July.

Featuring a wide-ranging programme that includes live concerts, dance performances, a fashion show, a bazaar and a street procession, the festival promises a fascinating journey through the rich culture and history of Africa.

Under the motto ‘Sustainability of African history, culture & heritage’, the 2024 festival brings together Africans and Germans to promote intercultural understanding.

“The Africa Festival Potsdam is an important platform for intercultural exchange, artistic performances, informative workshops and culinary delights,” Mrs Charity Okezie-Andesine, festival director/founder said. “This year, we are placing a special focus on the sustainability of African history, culture and heritage in order to promote their appreciation and preservation,” she added.

“The festival is growing steadily. It attracts more attention, draws many people to Potsdam and enables the people of the state capital to experience diverse African cultures.”

Organised by the Internationales Center (ICDI e. V.) with the support of numerous migrant self-organisations, Potsdamer GmbH, Potsdamer Mitbürger and sponsored by the City of Potsdam, Afrika Festival Potsdam/Brandenburg proves that Potsdam is a cosmopolitan and culturally friendly city.

“Through this festival, ICDI e. V. would like to enrich the city and the state of Brandenburg with the cultures they have brought with them, especially the African diaspora,” Mrs Okezie-Andesine added.

The 2024 festival, at which more than 3,000 guests are expected, concludes a series of events on African cultures within the Africa Month, during which various events are presented in the districts of Schlaatz, Stern and Drewitz.
