THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
A delegation of 19 students from the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg on Monday (16 December 2019) paid a study trip to the Uganda Embassy in Berlin where they were met by Mr Fred Moses Mukhooli, Counsellor, on behalf of Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka. The students who will be representing the Republic of Uganda at the simulation conference National Model United Nations (NMUN) 2020 in New York, were on a 3-day study trip to Berlin as part of their preparation.
Ms Hannah Rebecca O’Neill, Head of the Delegation, said her team was at the Embassy to gain comprehensive insights into the political system, social-cultural circumstances as well as the geopolitical situation of Uganda and the East African Great Lakes region. “As we strive to represent the country as realistically and authentically as possible, we will undergo comprehensive preparation for our role as diplomats,” she said.
She added that since 2003 the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg has sent annual delegations of students to the NMUN Conference held in New York. In order to guarantee the success of the delegates, the students go through an intensive preparation phase that lasts for an entire semester. In April 2020, the students will represent Uganda in six UN Committees.
Mr Mukhooli, in his address to the students, explained what was expected of them as “Uganda’s representatives” and gave them a brief on the country’s foreign policy and diplomatic architecture, and her national interests which the delegation should promote and protect in the coming simulation conference in New York. He also gave them insights into Uganda’s positions on nuclear disarmament, migration, climate change, security and issues related to sustainable development.
