The Forum der Kulturen Stuttgart e.V., in collaboration with four (post-)migrant organizations from Stuttgart, has published a multilingual children’s book titled “Stuttgart, das sind wir! Eine Reise um die Welt” (Stuttgart, das sind wir! A Journey Around the World). The book will be officially launched at a public event on 21 February at the Stuttgart City Library.
The book takes readers—both children and adults—on an engaging journey through four countries and regions across the globe. It offers fascinating cultural insights through recipes, folktales, poems and songs, alongside background information about each featured location. Adding a personal touch, the book incorporates migration stories from families involved in the project.
Celebrating cultural and linguistic diversity
Developed in partnership with several (post-)migrant organizations, the book aims to showcase the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of Stuttgart’s residents. “This project brings the cultural and linguistic variety of Stuttgart to life,” explains Antonio Russo, head of the Parents, Children and Youth Education department at the Forum der Kulturen.
The book is multilingual, featuring content in German alongside the native languages of the participating families: Chinese, Spanish Ukrainian, and Fe’efe’e, a language from Cameroon.
The Forum der Kulturen, now a recognized provider of youth services, hopes to use the book to honour Stuttgart’s multicultural society and emphasize the importance of multilingualism. Designed as both an entertaining read and an educational tool, the book is intended for use in schools and daycare centers to foster respect, tolerance and awareness of the diversity that shapes our communities.
Book launch event
The launch event at the Stuttgart City Library promises an immersive experience for attendees. “Join us on an exciting journey through Stuttgart and the world, and discover how a book inspired by the stories of our city’s residents connects cultures from around the globe,” Russo invites.
Visitors will not only explore the book but also delve deeper into themes of multilingualism and cultural diversity. “We highlight the significance of multilingualism in child development and share the inspiring stories embedded in the book—for children and adults alike,” adds Russo.
The event will feature readings, interactive activities, and opportunities to meet the authors and illustrators, making it a memorable afternoon for all attendees.
