THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
According to the federal government, 7,861 persons were deported from Germany in the period of January to June 2023, almost 27 per cent more than in the same period last year, the news agency epd has reported.
Most of the deportees were taken to Austria under the Dublin rule that provides that the EU country which an asylum seeker first entered is responsible for their asylum application.
In addition, many refugees were returned to their countries of origin, especially Georgia, Northern Macedonia, Albania, Moldova and Serbia.
Moreover, 2,186 people who had entered the country without permission were sent back directly at the border in the first six months of 2023.
As of 30 June, there were 279,098 persons living in Germany who were obliged to leave the country, according to the federal interior ministry, This is the first time in many years that this number has fallen.
According to the same report, the number of people who voluntarily left Germany increased at a similar rate as the number of deportations as 7,201 persons left the country with funding from the federal government, the federal stares and municipalities.
