After several years of waiting, a new substantive ambassador from Nigeria to Berlin arrived during the week. Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, takes charge of the embassy which has been headed until now by the Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Mobolaji Sakirat Ogundero.
Hon. Yusuf Tuggar, who was born on 12 March 1967, hails from Udubo in the Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He schooled in the UK and studied in the United States, where he obtained a BA in International Relations.
At the House of Representatives, Tuggar was appointed as Chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement which birthed the Public Procurement Act 2007. He led the committee in conducting oversight visits to MDAs, highlighting areas of non-compliance with the Act and worked in tandem with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), an agency his committee had direct oversight responsibility for. In addition to his chairmanship of the Public Procurement Committee, he was also a member of various committees and sub-committees including the Committee on Petroleum Upstream, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Committee on Agriculture and Committee on Interior.
A sucessful businessman, Yusuf Tuggar was until his appointment the Chief Executive Officer of Nordic Oil & Gas Services Limited, a company offering consulting services in the oil and gas industry.
Ambassador Tuggar has met the representatives of the Nigeria community Germany (NCG) and Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) Germany since his arrival. He assured his countrymen and women in Germany of his commitment to the promotion of their welfare at all times. “I will like to begin by assuring you that every Nigerian life matters and it is made to feel that it matters and at the same time being a Nigerian comes with a lot of responsibility, I am not the only ambassador here, we are all ambassadors,” he added at the meeting on Monday in Berlin.
