Government-backed African Advisory Centre opens in Dortmund

The African Network of Germany (TANG) has opened a new office in Dortmund. The organisation implements projects to support its objectives, among which is the promotion of the integration of Africans in German society. TANG, founded in 2013, also facilitates the engagement of diaspora Africans in the development of their countries of origin.

The Dortmund office, which formally opened for business on 20 July and is responsible for the whole of North Rhine Westphalia, will coordinate TANG’s projects in the state. The association is currently carrying out two major projects, among others, nationwide.

One of these is Gemeinsam für mehr Teilhabe (Together for more participation). Under the project, which is financed by the federal government, 1029 refugees from African countries (as at 30 June 2019) are accompanied and assisted by 681 honorary mentors in the states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The second project, Dein EZ-Projekt – Schritt für Schritt (Your Development Cooperation Project – Step for Step), advises project initiators active in municipal development co-operation in Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg.

Dein EZ-Projekt comprises four training courses – writing and presentation of project ideas, project implementation and accounting, communication with municipal authorities as well as individual project consulting.

With more than 600 association and individual members, TANG is the largest nationwide network of African associations in Germany. It informs, advises, strengthens and networks these groups so that they can develop their full potential as a driving force in society. The head office of TANG is in Freiburg.
