THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana has officially launched a policy on how the country would engage its citizens living across the globe in national development efforts in their homeland. The Diaspora Engagement Policy was unveiled at a ceremony on Wednesday in Accra.
Highlighting the significance of the Ghanaian diaspora, estimated to be between 1.5 and 3 million citizens residing mainly in countries such as Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, the UK, the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada, President Akufo-Addo acknowledges their substantial contributions to the country.
He said the policy was a significant stride towards “fostering stronger connections with our beloved Ghanaian community spread across the globe,” adding that “This comprehensive policy aims to create a framework for collaborative efforts, encouraging the active participation of our diaspora in the development and growth of our great nation.”
Akwasi Awua Ababio, Director of Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, said: “The Diaspora Engagement Policy is a significant step towards strengthening our relationship with the diaspora. By promoting constructive engagement and offering a legal frameworks that extend privileges to Ghanaians in the diaspora, we aim to mobilize resources for sustainable national development and enhance accurate data dissemination.”
The policy envisages the participation of stakeholders from government agencies, civil society organizations and foreign development partners working together in its implementation.
