A laudable initiative to promote higher educational achievements among youth in the community of people of African origin in Germany holds its annual award ceremony in Hamburg on Saturday, 2 November 2019.
The African Youth Education Awards (AYEA) motivates African-origin youth in the country to seek excellence in school. The scheme was initiated in 2011 to act against the observed low educational attainment levels of these youth, which has been partly blamed on lack of motivation.
“It is a platform where we encourage the kids to stay in school by awarding them and also introducing them to mentors who also educate them on why they should stay in school,” the initiators of AYEA say of the youth empowerment project.

AYEA highlights success stories by rewarding those who have excelled in their education and training to act as veritable role models for their peers in the community. “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today,” is the slogan of the AYE Awards.

Eligible for the Awards are young persons with an African/Caribbean background who have successfully completed a vocational trade as well as those who are first-year university students in Germany. For example, students who gain admission into higher institutions of learning are eligible for the awards. Moreover, socially-engaged youths involved in community work are also eligible for the award.

The initiators of the AYEA, a non-profit project, are currently raising funds to secure the future of the laudable initiative and are appealing for generous support from the public.
