Hamburg hosts German-African Energy Forum 2018

Political and business leaders from Germany and Africa will gather at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce on 24-25 April for the 12th German-African Energy Forum.

The annual event offers a platform for players in the energy sector for interaction, networking and deal-making.

The event this year will focus on the increasing role of renewable energies in the African continent’s electricity supply and how Africa can make its energy future more sustainable.

Delegations are expected from 17 African countries, including ministers or deputy ministers from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Sudan, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

Program highlights are

  • Energy systems and system management
  • Renewable energies: Wind, solar and hydro power, biomass and biogas
  • National and international initiatives in the energy sector
  • Mini-grid and off-grid solutions for industry and rural areas

The German-African Energy Forum is the most important platform for the European-African energy business in Germany. Since 2006 the forum has attracted almost 4.000 participants and delegates from 52 African countries.

Afrika-Verein (German-African Business Association), the organiser, has announced that about 400 participants from Africa, Germany and the rest of the world will take part at the event.

As in the past years, African delegations will have the opportunity to present their countries exclusively in dedicated country sessions.

Almost 600 million Africans or 57 per cent of the population have no access to any form of electricity. To close the huge deficit, governments are investing in the improvement of electricity generation and supply across the continent.

German companies seeking contracts in Africa will have the opportunity to meet the decision-makers from the continent on a one-to-one basis at the Forum and possibly make deals.
