THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
Around 200 authors from over 40 countries are expected to attend the Berlin International Literature Festival on 6 – 16 September to consider the current challenges facing literature.
Among leading writers expected to attend the festival are India’s Arundhati Roy, France’s Yasmina Reza and the US’s Donna Leon with authors presenting new works at about 100 events, organizers said.
Now in its 17th year, the festival will open on 6 September with a lecture by Turkish author Elif Shafak. The festival’s opening will also include a reading of works calling for respect for human rights. New prose and poetry by contemporary authors from all over the world will be presented at the 11-day festival.
Two decades following the world-wide success of her semi-biographical novel “The God of Little Things”, Roy is to present in Berlin her long-awaited new book “The Ministry of Ultimate Happiness”.
The festival will also mark the premiere of its project “Refugees Worldwide” with 14 writers presenting works drawn from their travels to the world’s crisis zones.
Since 2001 the International Literature Festival takes place every year in September in Berlin. It focuses on the development of international prose and lyric poetry. During the festival writers from all over the world are in Berlin to present their work to lovers of literature. All texts are read in the original language, interpreters translate the pieces into German.
