Osasere ‘Joy’ Igbineweka, popularly known as Mama Prosper, was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony in Frankfurt on Friday 11 December. She had died in the morning of 26 November in the German city.
Despite the unfavourable weather condition and the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, friends and family members turned out in a large number to pay their last respects to a woman who was much loved in the African community.
Mama Prosper, who died at the age of 40, hailed from Benin City, Nigeria.
The shock of Mama Prosper’s sudden passing was still visible on the faces of the numerous sympathizers at the burial ground on Friday. Sandra Ihama, a bosom friend of the late Mama Prosper was still lost of words to convey her grief, all she managed to utter was to wish her friend a rest in peace and that the family she left behind, especially her children, would not be forgotten.
A beloved, caring and socially outspoken personality in the African community, she was well known especially among her fellow Nigerians in the Frankfurt-Rhein Main area.
Mama Prosper was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Her friendliness and openness to enjoy life to the fullest earned her an additional social nickname of ‘Chop Life’ among the Frankfurter Africans.
When I asked her many years ago as she still ran an African shop in Frankfurt what her secret of not being easily offended was, Mama Prosper said she had too little space in her to keep enmity.
Mama Prosper is survived by her husband, Prince Osunde Adams, her children Prosper, Elizabeth, Aaron, Bennis, Becky and Etinosa as well as siblings.
