The IT specialist who also studied business management, aged 40, took over the management of the welfare service organisation, headquartered in Ludwigshafen, on Wednesday (9 September).

The DRK Kreisverband Vorderpfalz and the DRK Altenhilfe Vorderpfalz together employ around 230 people, who are active in refugee work, child and youth work as well as running a social station and a nursing home.

“With Carlo Bansah, we have found a leader who is already anchored in the Red Cross and has a network in the region,” says Willi Dörfler, President of the DRK District Association Vorderpfalz.

Born in Ludwigshafen, Bansah, who has has an adult son and lives with his partner in Ludwigshafen-Friesenheim, has been head of the DRC rescue service Vorderpfalz since 2017. He has also previously worked as project controller at the organisation.

“I would like to thank you for the trust placed in me and I look forward to the new and diverse tasks. I would particularly like to thank Michael Kurz [his predecessor], who leaves me a well-run welfare association with 150 years of history and sustainable structures. Together with the principal staff and volunteers, I want to develop the district association in an innovative and sustainable way,” says Carlo Bansah.

As managing director, he is not only responsible for grassroots training, refugee, child, youth and family work as well as voluntary activities with 150 active helpers and more than 100 Red Cross staffers, but also heads the DRK-Altenhilfe Vorderpfalz, a modern service company in the care of the elderly. Bansah is thus also responsible for the approximately 220 employees and about 2800 customers of the DRK-Altenhilfe Vorderpfalz.

Carlo is the son of Chief Bansah (72), the well-known Ludwigshafen-based Ghanaian chief who has been living in Germany since the early 1970s. Popularly called König Bansah in the German media, Togbe Ngoryifia Céphas Kosi Bansah is Ngoryifia (“developmental chief”) of his native Gbi Traditional area of Hohoe in the Volta region of Ghana.

Carlo is following in the footsteps of his father, who has been honoured severally for his many years of volunteer work in Ghana and Ludwigshafen.
