MoneyGram launches sponsorship scheme for African associations in Germany

The number of African organisations in Germany is astounding. More than 700 African clubs and associations support projects in Africa or promote sporting activities and African culture in Germany.

At the same time they also support integration into German society.

However, like all voluntary organisations they depend on donations. MoneyGram, one of the world’s leading providers of innovative money-transfer solutions and most diverse companies, is the first to recognise the work of these organisations this year.

“As a large multicultural company with employees from almost every country in the world, MoneyGram is as diverse as the African community in Germany. We know how important it is to cultivate local traditions, but also to support friends, families and compatriots at home. With club sponsorships, we can contribute to both aspects,” says Sabine Bauchau, Marketing Director for Africa at MoneyGram International.

With the “afrika! Community Award” the money-transfer company wants to give back to its customers in Germany: “With our offer, we connect people and cultures all over the world. To support all the great African organisations here in Germany, we would also like to set a sign as a company with social responsibility,” said Michael Schütze, head of Central & Emerging Europe at MoneyGram.

From now until 19 May 2017, African organisations in Germany are invited to register for the prize on afrikaportal.eu. Four winners will be chosen from these organisations and each will receive 1,000 euros.

A five-person jury, consisting of three members of the African community in Germany and two MoneyGram representatives, will select the winner associations in the following categories:

  • Cultural association
  • Sports association
  • Social Commitment/Humanitarian/Development
  • Event promoter
