The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Germany e.V. will hold its second Roundtable on Diaspora and Development in Nigeria on 28 May.
The virtual conference focuses on how Nigerians living abroad could more impactfully contribute to the sustainable economic development of their homeland.
The event, entitled Trade and Investments for Sustainable Development in Nigeria, will feature eminent speakers. Among these is Dr Ndidi Nnoli-Edozien, a social entrepreneur and corporate sustainability and responsibility expert, who will speak on Sustainability in Nigerian Business for National Development.
Dr John Chimeziem George, CEO of the Rotex Group of Companies (Nigeria/Ukraine/UK), will talk about the Opportunities and Challenges of Diaspora Investment in Nigeria, while Patrick Odiegwu will focus on Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Nigerian Mining Industry.
Moreover, Ms Corinna Päffgen – Director of German Trade & Investment in Ghana – is billed to identify the major obstacles and positive perspectives in the trade and investment relations between Nigeria and Germany.
The conference, whose theme is Driving Increased Diaspora Engagement for the Realization of the SDGs in Nigeria, will be chaired by Ambassador Wahab Akande, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Frankfurt, Germany.
NIDO Germany launched the Roundtable, a series of formal conversations on how the diaspora could have a more impactful effect on homeland development, last year.
The first edition of the event was held virtually on 4 December 2021, with the theme “Driving diaspora engagement towards the realisation of the SDGs in Nigeria”, and was chaired by HE Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany.

NIDO Germany seeks to encourage discussions on how to refocus diaspora engagement on the sustainable improvement of the living condition of the people, contributing to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.
The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
“We are of the conviction that everyone is needed to attain the ambitious SDGs. And that the creativity, know-how, contacts and financial resources of the diaspora are necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context,” NIDO Germany said in a press statement.
