The leadership of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe (NIDOE) was in The Hague on Thursday (15 February) in continuation of its consultative tour of Nigerian diplomatic missions in Europe.
The members of the body’s Central Executive Council, led by the chairman of NIDOE, Hon. Kenneth Gbandi, were warmly received by Nigeria’s ambassador to the Netherlands, His Excellency Oji Nyimenuate Ngofa, in the company of principal officials of the embassy.
Gbandi gave an account of NIDOE’s activities to the ambassador and shared the views of the Nigerian Diaspora on key issues of national development. “We are all in agreement that the Diaspora is the next frontier for Nigeria’s socio-economic development and good governance transformation,” Gbandi noted.
Gbandi also used the opportunity to bring up issues of interest to the Nigerian Diaspora, including collaboration with Nigerian missions on attracting Foreign Direct Investment to Nigeria, Diaspora investment in the country’s housing sector, migration and development, the work of the Diaspora Commission and voting rights for citizens living outside Nigeria, among others.
Ambassador Ngofa assured NIDOE of his support and called for an increased participation of the Diaspora in addressing national development challenges.
Speaking on the visit to The Hague, Gbandi expressed his gratitude to the Chair and Board of Trustees of NIDO Netherlands for their excellent hospitality and generosity.
“When I stated over one year ago, that it’s an exciting time to be a member of NIDO Europe, I was dead right!” he added, enthusing on the success of the visit to the Netherlands.
The next stop of the NIDOE tour is the Nigerian Embassy in Vienna, Austria. Before the end of the first quarter of 2018, the organization is scheduled to have visited 9 European countries.
