The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Germany e.V. (NIDO Germany) holds its annual general meeting on Saturday, 26 June.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event, to which all members are invited to attend, takes place virtually this year.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM), an important democratic practice, is a forum for an organisation to take stock of its activities and set goals for the future.
The event provides members an opportunity to review the organisation’s activities and vote on the report of its audit committee. Members are also able to make contributions on the organisation’s policies and programmes, charting the way forward.
The president of NIDO Germany, Dr RosaLyn Dressman, will deliver a ‘State of the Organisation’ report, in which she will evaluate the organisation’s progress towards its mission under her stewardship.
Ms Dressman, who was recently appointed the Diaspora Focal Officer (DFO) of Bayelsa State and has spent three years at the helm of NIDO Germany, is not seeking re-election.
Other speakers expected to address the meeting are Hon Kenneth Gbandi, immediate past chairman of NIDO Europe, and officials of the Embassy of Nigeria.
A new Executive Committee, the principal administrative organ of the organisation which is to pilot the affairs of the group for the next two years, will be elected at the AGM.

A Board of Trustees, consisting of five members, will be also appointed by the general assembly at the event.
The 2021 AGM is the first time that NIDO Germany, a non-profit and non-partisan organisation, will conduct its election virtually.
NIDO Germany is the German chapter of NIDO Europe (NIDOE), comprising a network of 19 chapters in 18 European countries with headquarters at the Nigerian High Commission in London.
The global network of NIDO, recognised by the Nigerian government as the umbrella organisation for all Nigerians living abroad, consists of six continental chapters – NIDO Europe, NIDO Asia, NIDO Africa, NIDO North America, NIDO South America and NIDO Oceania.
The mandate of NIDO, established in 2000 under the auspices of then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is to promote the welfare of the Nigerian diaspora and pursue national development through advocacy, networking, partnerships and bilateral cooperation.
