Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE) has congratulated all the presidential candidates for their victory at the recent primary elections of their respective political parties.
In the message sent to the contestants on Monday, 15 October, NIDOE expressed the concerns of Nigerians living abroad over the situation in the country. Nigerians in the Diaspora have been debating among themselves the situation of the country and the way forward.
As an expression of its interest to play a more active role in the country’s political process, NIDOE invited the flag-bearers to an interactive engagement with the Nigerian Diaspora community at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NIDOE, which takes place on 8-10 November in Vienna, Austria.
“There will be a session at the AGM in Vienna devoted to the 2019 polls, which provides an opportunity for the political parties to engage with the Diaspora audience on their plans for Nigeria,” NIDOE said in the statement signed by its chairman, Hon. Kenneth Gbandi.
“The session will enable the Diaspora to hear first-hand what the different political parties are offering and how they intend to collaborate with the Diaspora for the advancement of our nation.”
NIDOE renewed its call for the urgent restoration of law and order across the length and breadth of Nigeria and for an end to the killings in some parts of the country. “We would like to remind the political class that there is an urgent need, more than ever before, to refrain from any act that will throw Nigeria into turmoil as we head for the General Election in 2019,” the statement said.
“The interests of the people should be paramount in all the activities and utterances of the political actors.”
Nigeria will hold a general election in February 2019.
