Nigeria’s President Buhari visits Germany

 

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria begins a three-day (13-15 October) official visit to Germany today.

He is expected to hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel on issues of shared interests between Nigeria and Germany, including co-operation on security, the humanitarian situation of internally displaced persons and rehabilitation of the North-East ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency, as well as trade and economic relations between both countries.

The Nigerian leader, who is accompanied by Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno State, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and representatives of the National Assembly, will pay a courtesy call on German President Joachim Gauck.

In furtherance of his administration’s objective to attract more foreign investment and create economic opportunities in the country, President Buhari will meet representatives of leading German companies at a Business Forum in Berlin. The event will also be attended by Nigerian business people.

Buhari is also scheduled to meet with representatives of the Nigerian community in Germany before departing for home on Saturday.
