The German city of Frankfurt will again host the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) and its sister event Nollywood Europe Golden Award (NEGA) on 9-10 September. The yearly event, organized by Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V., features Nigerian film screenings, seminars and a variety entertainment show, among other activities.
A highlight of the festival this year is the première of a new movie Diplomatic strings, written and directed by Paul Julius Obomokhai and produced by Isaac Izoya, founder and director of NFFG/ NEGA. Some top Nollywood stars featured in the film are Francis Duru, Uche Ogbodo, Cassandra Odita, George Eyo and Cynthia Agholor who play alongside German and American actors.
News of the upcoming event is all over European cities with fans of Nollywood planning to keep the date for what many believe has stamped its authority as a premier show that celebrates Nigerian films in Europe, honouring contributors to the progress of society apart from providing entertainment.
According to the Nigerian representative for NEGA/NFFG, ace TV producer Kunle Aborishade, “top on the bill to grace the occasion is screen actor Francis Duru who will be joined by Charles Inojie to anchor the NEGA Awards event. This is not Inojie’s first time at NEGA. He was one of the first awardees in 2012 in Essen, Germany, alongside Nollywood star Mona Lisa and Ghana top act Jackie Appiah, among others.
Izoya has confirmed that a delegation of the Association of Movie Producers in Nigeria, including its vice president Joy Chinasa Onyechere, is also expected at NEGA/NIFF 2016, adding that the award-winning Nigerian hip hop star Kiss Daniel, who will be on his first tour of Europe, will give a performance at the Awards gala night.
Kiss Daniel will also jam in other European cities after the NEGA show, where his latest album MAMA has been nominated for an award. Already his female fans across Europe are bracing up to meet him live, Izoya said.
Nollywood Europe Golden Awards – NEGA Awards is a platform designed to honour Nollywood stakeholders, stars, comedians, musicians (both in Africa and in the Diaspora) which has also been expanded to recognize the artistic bias of outstanding politicians and businessmen and women both in Africa and beyond whose actions in the area of culture and tourism sector, have directly or indirectly impacted upon Nigerians worldwide and the industry in particular, thereby shaping what it has grown to become today. // Fred Iwenjora
