Obasanjo, Jonathan to address Nigerian Diaspora Europe Conference

Nigerians from all parts of Europe, joined by guests from across the globe, will gather on 11-14 November for the annual general meeting of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE).

The event, which holds both physically and virtually, is being hosted in Dortmund, Germany, by the German chapter of the organisation, NIDO Germany.

Eminent Nigerian leaders, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, are scheduled to address the conference, with the theme Towards Homeland Development.

Other dignitaries billed to address the event include Ambassador Minata Samate Cessouma, Commissioner for Political Affairs of the African Union Commission; Ambassador Dr Ada Okika, Executive Director, Centre for SDG Global Education, the United Nations; and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

Issues of concern to Nigerians abroad as well as developments at home will also be debated at the meeting.

“Based on the impact of diaspora contribution to the national economy, the conference will further explore a more structured, effective and efficient diaspora involvement and participation in the growth and development of Nigeria at both state and federal levels,” NIDO Germany said in a press statement on the conference.

Keynote addresses will be delivered on Diaspora Investment by Andrew S. Nevin, Partner & Chief Economist PwC Nigeria and author of Strength from Abroad – The Economic Power of Nigeria’s Diaspora; and Muda Yusuf, Director-General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ms Dabiri-Erewa and Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Chairperson House Committee on Diaspora, are also expected to make keynote speeches.

Panel discussions, featuring issues of national economic development, will be held during the 4-day confab, which will culminate with the election of a new Central Executive Council of NIDOE, an event that takes place every two years.

Kenneth Gbandi, the chairman of NIDOE who is completing his second and last two-year term in office, has called on members of the organisation across Europe to endeavour to attend the annual meeting.
