Nigeria: Ogun indigenes abroad endorse Governor Abiodun for reelection

A group of Ogun State indigenes living abroad has thrown its weight behind Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is seeking reelection at the 2023 general polls. Ogun is one of Nigeria’s 36 states.

In a communique signed by the Co-ordinator of the Ogun State Diasporans, Engr Oluyemi Ogundele, and issued from Vienna, Austria, the group said it endorsed Prince Dapo Abiodun “after a clinical observation of all the candidates contesting for the exalted position” and found the incumbent governor to be the “best man for the job”.

The Ogun Diasporans believed that the achievements recorded so far under the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration would be consolidated by giving him another term of four years. “Continuity is the magic word,” the group said.

The Ogun indigenes listed the achievements of Prince Abiodun, including the ultra-modern Ogun Agro Cargo Airport (currently under construction), the provision of affordable houses for the masses and the infrastructural development in the state.

The group praised the governor for using public private partnerships (PPP) in the implementation of developments projects by the state government as this would ensure the efficiency of such investments.

The Ogun State Diasporans assured Governor Abiodun of its commitment to the development of the state, citing the initiatives of its members to promote Ogun’s economy. One of these initiatives is the Adire International Carnival, which takes place biannually in Vienna, Austria. The event, organised by Engr Oluyemi Ogundele, supports the Adire industry in Ogun State. The Carnival also promotes Ogun as a desirable destination for leisure and cultural tourism.

Ogundele, an engineer at the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency, the world’s centre for the promotion of the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technology, also actively encourages Ogun State indigenes in Europe and North America to invest at home to support the state government’s transformation agenda.

One of the notable results of Ogundele’s efforts is the facilitation of the construction of the 15.3 million naira ultra-modern toilet facility by the David Alaba Foundation in the Ogere Remo community in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Diasporans said other projects were in the offing and encouraged Governor Abiodun to remain steadfast in his determination to improve the quality of life of the people of the state.
