Peter Obi in Germany to speak with Nigerians

Leading Nigerian politician and presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, will speak to his countrymen and women in Germany on Friday 26 August in Frankfurt am Main.

The businessman turned politician will give a lecture on ‘The Role of Nigerians in Diaspora in Transformation of Nigeria’ at the event, christened ‘Nigerians in Germany Welcome Peter Obi’.

Organised by a group of Nigerian organisations and individuals in Germany, the lecture provides an opportunity for Obi, arguably the most popular Nigerian politician today, to interact with Nigerians living in Germany and listen to their suggestions on how to move their homeland forward.

Speaking with The African Courier, Anthony Ikechukwu Dominic, spokesman of the organisers, said the lecture would also send out a message to Nigerian politicians that the diaspora was keen about the coming elections and would play an active part in it.

“Given the problems besetting the country today, no patriotic Nigerian could be complacent about the 2023 elections which is why we in the diaspora have to actively engage the process,” he added.

Dominic paid glowing tributes to all those who out of patriotic zeal have contributed immensely to making the event possible, including Mr Sunny Ikeokwu (event coordinator) and Dr Franklin Ogbunweze (event moderator)..

Among other activities planned for the ‘Nigerians in Germany Welcomes Peter Obi’ day are the inauguration of the Peter Obi Support Group in Germany and a private dinner with the presidential hopeful.

Peter Obi has meanwhile confirmed his attendance of the event on his verified Twitter account. “En route to the U.S.A, I’ll make a pit stop in Germany to interact with Nigerians in Germany. I hold Nigerians in Diaspora in very high esteem,” he twitted on Friday. “They represent the core of our human development capital and contribute immensely to nation building via remittances and technical knowledge transfer. My present outing will take me to Germany, Italy, Canada & the U.S.A. I look forward to the very constructive engagements,” he added.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra, joined the presidential race in March and since then has energised a massive support base among Nigerian youths, who have named themselves the Obidient Movement. Obi is one of the three leading candidates for the presidency at the 2023 elections. The others are Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling APC and Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition PDP. Obi was Abubakar’s running mate at the 2019 general election.
