THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
An umbrella organisation of Black organisations in Germany, tubman.network, has successful completed the implementation of its ‘Professionalisation-Strategy’ project, aimed at bolstering support for Black communities in Berlin’s district of Mitte.
Supported by the District Office Berlin-Mitte, the project addressed crucial challenges such as housing, psychosocial support, employment, access to education, emergency relief, access to health-services with a focus on providing culturally sensitive assistance.
The project, implemented in collaboration with GAIDI gUG and TANG e.V., marked a significant milestone in the organization’s journey towards professionalization and sustainability.
“The formal registration of tubman.network e.V. in January 2024, alongside the establishment of robust financial policies and the establishment of an advisory board, signified a new chapter in our commitment to serving Black communities,” stated Daniel Wamara, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of tubman.network.
Under the strategic guidance of Zimbabwean-born graphic designer, Nigel Masore, tubman.network revamped its online presence, unveiling a new website and logo designed to amplify its impact and reach broader audiences.
“Through creative collaboration and strategic design, we aimed to deepen our commitment to the health and well-being of African and Afro-diasporic communities,” said Masore.
With a dedicated team of volunteers and partnerships with organizations like TANG e.V. and GAIDI gUG, tubman.network significantly expanded its reach, providing crucial support to nearly 1,000 people monthly.
The project’s success culminated in, among other achievements, securing a grant, enabling the collaboration with 30 Black organizations in Germany to enhance collective learning and further development until December 2024.
“The Professionalisation-Strategy for tubman.network project was instrumental in strengthening our operational capacity and strategic position,” said Daniel Wamara. “Together, we were poised to build a more inclusive and supportive society for Black communities around our strategic base in Moabit, Berlin’s District Mitte and beyond.”
The project extends its gratitude to Carolyn Kanja of the District Office Berlin-Mitte for her unwavering support and collaboration in addressing the needs of Black communities in the region.
