Two leading African hip-hop musicians will perform in Germany’s biggest city, political capital and multicultural hub in the first week of September.
2Baba Idibia, who went by the stage name 2Face Idibia until July 2014, will entertain fans of Afrobeats on 1 September in the prestigious Columbia Theatre in Berlin on 1 September.
A week later, on 7 September, Tanzanian No. 1 music ambassador Diamond Platnumz , whose real name is Nasib Abdul, will perform at the same venue.
The two shows are the talk of the town in the African community in Berlin right now.
2Baba’s Berlin outing is part of his current ‘20 Years A King Europe’ tour, which began in Malta on 28 August and will take him to Frankfurt, Essen, Zurich, Torino, Vienna and Goteborg Malta as well.
One could say that the 43-year-old Nigerian Afrobeats legend, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, has created his own unique musical style and has been amply rewarded with numerous awards in Africa’s music industry.
In East Africa there is an undisputed king of pop: Diamond Platnumz. One of Africa’s richest musicians who popularised “bongo flava”, Tanzanian hip-hop, Platnumz has performed to big crowds across the continent and in many parts of the world. Every month, it seems, the multi-award winning artist is putting out yet another hit full of plaintive lyrics and undeniable beats.

Platnumz, who launched his own TV and radio station in 2018, is no stranger to controversy though because of his lyrics. He has had some of his songs banned by the Tanzanian authorities for being sexually suggestive.
2Baba Idibia and Diamond Platnumz will definitely not leave Berlin the same after their performances as they would have created a greater impact for African hip-hop in the heart of Europe.
