Stonebwoy, Nkulee Dube, others to rock German town of Emmendingen

The German town of Emmendingen will host the 20th anniversary of the African Music Festival from 4 to 7 August. And the organisers are leaving no stone unturned to make the anniversary a special, memorable one.

Among the many artists billed to perform in Emmendingen is Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage name Stonebwoy.

The multiple-awarded Ghanaian Afropop, dance hall and reggae musician will deliver one of the highlight performances at a festival that has meanwhile established a reputation as an address for quality Afro-origin music in Europe.

Considered as the king of reggae and dance hall in Africa, Stonebwoy has performed literally across the globe – in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Canada, USA and Australia, among others, to the delight of music lovers.

The 34-year old musician, who boasts of four studio albums and many singles and has enjoyed commercial and critical success since launching his career in 2012, will headline the Afro/World Music stage on 6 August. The stage will also feature Vitamin X, considered the pioneers of African rhythms & roots reggae in Germany, and the Haitian musicians Weslie & Coralie.

“No female artist has managed to fuse ethno-soul, jazz with ragga in one song as this 33-year old singer- songwriter has done in such a short space of time since entering this challenging and yet exciting industry,” writes a music journalist of Nkulee Dube.

The daughter and heir of Lucky Dube, who has also received numerous international awards, is renowned for the way she effortlessly traverses between music genres.

A powerful stage performer and crowd puller, Nkulee will perform in Emmendingen on 7 August as part of her 2022 ‘Summer of Love Tour’ which will take her across Europe.

The South African will be sharing the Reggae stage at the festival with Gentleman, one of Germany’s foremost reggae musicians. Born Tillman Otto, the award-winning artist sings in fluent Patois and has been performing for 30 years, bringing critically acclaimed innovations to the music.

The Reggae evening therefore promises beautiful music and pure entertainment as it will be enriched by Acrobatics, a Ghanaian group that performs all manner of traditional African music, dance and acrobatic.

From Thursday, 4 to Sunday, 7 August, the German town of Emmendingen will once again become the focus of attention for lovers of African music, featuring artistes from Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.

In addition to the various workshops and an extensive supporting program, the world bazaar and the street parade should not be missed this year.
