Yemi Alade, Blinky Bill and Black Sherif to perform in Berlin

Afro-Pop stars to perform at Berlin’s international music festival Pop-Kultur

Berlin’s Pop-Kultur Festival, holding from 28-30 August, is set to dazzle attendees with an electrifying lineup of performances, featuring some of Africa’s brightest stars.

Among the headliners is Yemi Alade, the Nigerian Afro-pop sensation whose energetic performances have captivated audiences worldwide. Known for her vibrant stage presence, Alade will bring her signature blend of Afrobeat rhythms and powerful vocals to Berlin, supported by a full band and dancers. Her performance promises to be a highlight of the festival, offering a taste of the dynamic energy that has made her one of Africa’s most successful musicians.

Joining Alade on the Pop-Kultur stage is Black Sherif, the 22-year-old Ghanaian rapper whose unique sound fuses highlife, Afrofusion, and rap. Black Sherif has quickly become one of Ghana’s most sought-after artists, earning acclaim for his ability to blend traditional African sounds with contemporary rap. His performance is highly anticipated, adding to the festival’s rich tapestry of international talent.

The two acts will be in good company. The Nigerian alternative R&B, hip hop and Afrobeat singer and songwriter Lady Donli and Kenyan multi-talent Blinky Bill will also be performing at Pop-Kultur, taking place from 28 to 30 August 2024 in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, a vibrant cultural and entertainment hub.

The Pop-Kultur Festival is known for its commitment to showcasing a diverse array of perspectives and talents. This year’s edition features not only musical performances but also a wide range of cultural experiences, including exhibitions, installations, talks and films. The festival’s focus on internationality and inclusivity ensures a platform where pop culture is both celebrated and critically examined.

In addition to the live performances, Pop-Kultur also highlights creative innovation through its Commissioned Works program. Each year, 15 artists are invited to create unique stage productions, spanning concerts, performances, and theatre. This year’s lineup includes the all-style dance battle »MY CIRCLE«, organized by performance artists Eray Gülay (aka Ray) and Christina Angelescu (aka Crystal), where emotional storytelling takes precedence over technical perfection.

Moreover, the festival’s »Pop-Kultur Diskurs« program invites musicians, activists and cultural commentators to explore pop culture in all its facets. Topics range from meme culture to the politics of music, offering a platform for in-depth discussions.

Pop-Kultur’s commitment to fostering international cultural exchange is further exemplified by its Co-Creation Residencies, which bring together artists from different parts of the world to collaborate and create new works. These residencies underscore the festival’s role as a hub for global creativity, making it a must-attend event for anyone interested in the cutting edge of pop culture.
